HANDEL’S ‘THEODORA’

Theodora is of one of Handel’s largest-scale oratorios  and was his personal favourite.  Featuring some of the composer’s most glorious music, it serves as a timeless parable of spiritual resistance to tyranny and an indictment of persecution, topics that still resonate with audiences today. This production features 28 members of the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, 40 members of the Vancouver Cantata Singers and soloists Nathalie Paulin, soprano; Krisztina Szabó, mezzo-soprano; Lawrence Zazzo, countertenor; Zachary Wilder, tenor; Matthew Brook, bass-baritone  -- all under the direction of Alexander Weimann.  This large-scale celebration follows on from earlier triumphant successes: the 2012 performance and recording of Handel’s Orlando, last year’s Israel in Egypt, and this past summer’s Il Trionfo del Tempo.
