VOGLER QUARTET WITH IAN PARKER, PIANO

Formed in East Berlin in 1985, the Vogler Quartet has had an enviable international career, recording over almost the entire string quartet repertoire.  They have been regular visitors to the Friends of Chamber Music and have a sound which is invariably clean, full, and impeccably balanced.  In modern works, they show remarkable precision and intensity. In 2007, the Vogler Quartet assumed the prestigious Chamber Music Residency at the Stuttgart Conservatory, a position previously held by the Melos Quartet.  At this concert, they collaborate (as they did in 2006) with Vancouver’s own Ian Parker in the Shostakovich Piano Quintet.  They combine this with Schubert’s lovely Rosamunde Quartet and the first quartet of Erwin Schulhoff, a Czech/ Jewish composer who did not survive the Nazi regime.
